6C's in Writing for Social Media Marketing as Presented by PanPages TRINITY

Have you heard of the 6C's of content marketing? Just this month, we learnt about how to best write for social media.

Social media is all about visuals, and less about text. So, if you want to get your point across fast, it's best to keep things according to the 6C's:
    • Complete
    • Conscise
    • Clear
    • Correct
    • Consistent
    • Compelling

Use the 6C's in Your Upcoming Writing for Social Media

    Complete

The information that you present should always be complete.

State all the facts that your readers will need to go through with you call-to-action. You can also try reading through your written content and asking yourself, "What's in it for me?"

As an example, if you can read a Facebook post and understand that registering as a new member on an online fashion store will get you 20% off your first purchase, then you know what's in it for you.

If you then visit the website, complete your registration and find that each product comes with details like product dimensions, stock availability, pricing, sizes and more, then the information is complete too.

    Concise

People want their share of information fast these days!

Keep your message short and simple. Include only facts relevant to your readers and the purpose of your posts to make the information easier to digest.

Here's the key: It's not about keeping it as short as possible. It's about keeping it just as long as needed.

Compare the two lines below as an example:

    1) There is a requirement for monthly testing of both treated and untreated samples for a determination of contamination levels. The sample testing and data analysis are carried out by our Chief Safety Technician.

    2) Every month we must test both treated and untreated samples for contaminants. Our Chief Safety Technician tests the samples and analyses the data.

The second sentence is clearly a lot easier & faster to digest!

    Clear

If you want a good & effective post on social media, you're going to want a simple & direct post so that your message is clear.

Use familiar words & ditch jargons to ensure that even your slowest readers can understand your message.

    Rather than saying:

"We track the CLTV to ensure maximum ROI for digital marketing",

which may be understandable to other individuals in your industry but not the public, you can say:

"We track the value a customer contributes to our business over the entire lifetime at our company to ensure that we are maximizing our ad cost returns."

    Correct

Check your grammar, spelling and information before you post.

You may also want to check that the tone and style of your post should be consistent with the purpose & audience's expectations of said posting.

As an example, a post sympathizing with the misfortune of the recent flood victims should have a slightly gloomy tone rather than an upbeat one.

You may also want to clarify the details regarding the flood - location, date, who's affected et cetera.

    Consistent

Every brand should practice brand consistency, and we preach this.

Your posts should be consistent with your brand tone and voice, maintained across pages on your website and posts on your social media.

If your website has a serious tone explaining your services on your 'About' page, for example, you won't expect to scroll down and see another paragraph including memes and jokes in it.

    Stay consistent in your posts!

    Compelling

When a short glance on your post gets the reader to stop scrolling, it might be compelling.

When your posts are interesting and relevant to the reader, it can be compelling.

When your posts make an impact, making them want to engage with them, it's compelling.

Each post you make should compel your readers to do something, even if it's something minor such as liking the post or checking what's in the link you provided.

In fact, we have a new post coming up describing just what it means to make your post compelling. Check out our next posts to find out more!

Instagram is removing its following tab, along with other features to introduce for the betterment of mental health

No More Instagram Stalking - Removal of Following Tab & Other Instagram Updates

This week, Instagram will be removing the Following tab in their app, where users can view the activities of everyone they're following. Despite this feature being out for more than five years, not everyone was aware of the feature.

The Following tab was first introduced in 2011, marketed as an account discover tool from which users can catch up with what their friends, family members, frenemies and more are doing on Instagram.

As long as you follow the user, you can view their activities in real-time - which post they like, what they commented and so on.

Instagram users will see the tab being removed within this week, although users from other countries have reported it being missing from last month as well.

Part of the reason for the removal of this feature is that users have reported feeling paranoid about their activities being seen & judged for the posts that they interact with, but there's also the relatively new feature, the explore tab.

Explore Tab to Replace Following Tab for Account Discovery Feature

Earlier last year, Instagram also rolled out the Explore tab, which shows you the type of content that you should be able to enjoy.

Instagram algorithm looks into the accounts you follow, posts that you engage with and more to find similar posts and show them to you.

The explore tab has also come to include tabs on the top, including IGTV and shopping feature. Users can browse their explore section, finding posts that are relevant to them.

Users can then click into the posts & the poster's account to view other similar posts. With any luck, they'd find new accounts to follow!

Instagram is also taking steps to make users feel less insecure or pressured about posting on the highly aesthetic social media platform.

Instagram Experimenting with Removal of Total Likes

While still in beta testing, Instagram has removed the number of total likes on posts to help users feel less pressured when posting. This experiment is running in several different countries, including Canada, Australia, Japan & Italy among others.

As an example, viewers to a post will see 'Liked by Username & others" rather than "Liked by Username & 12 others". The original poster of the images meanwhile will still be able to see how many likes in total their posts garner.

With the number of total likes removed, Instagram hopes that users will be less focused on the amount of attention they get, but rather, focus on telling their story and share what they love.

This move was performed in light of studies linking social media platform usage to mental health issues, especially in terms of self-esteem.

Earlier in July, Instagram also revealed their plans to curb online bullying.

Instagram to Alert Users as They Type Potentially-Harmful Comments

Instagram has utilized artificial intelligence to identify comments that are similar to what other users have been reporting as harmful or hurtful.

When users are typing these comments, Instagram will show an alert saying, "Are you sure you want to post this? Learn More".

When users click on the Learn More button, Instagram will present a pop-up reminding the user to keep Instagram as a supportive place for users, and to rethink their comments.

Instagram also has plans to help individuals who may be bullied in real life, but can't block their bullies for fear of further retaliation in real life.

    Instagram to Introduce 'Restrict' Function

When users restrict their bullies, the bullies' comments on their posts will only be visible to themselves only. Users can choose to make their bullies' comments visible to others as well by approving the comment.

Restricted users will not be able to see when you are active on Instagram, and they will not receive any read receipts on their messages.

    Focus More on Mental Health

These changes and plans proposed are all done with hopes to better manage users' mental health and hopefully, improve them as well.

While some of the plans here are yet to be finalized, it could be time for users to reflect on how social media usage are impacting their state of mental health and behaviours.

Search absolute top impression rate = Impressions on the absolute top/ImpressionsStarting on September 30th (that's today!) Google ads will be removing a feature that many of us have used to gauge our ads performance - the Average Position metrics.

While Google has hinted about the removal since as early as February this year, there were no exact dates until recently.

Average position metrics to be replaced with Top Impression & Absolute Top Impression

Absolute Top Impression Rate & Top Impression Rate to Replace Average Position Metrics on Google Ads

Along with the removal of Average Positions, several other features that you might have in your account will also be no longer available:

    • Rules using Average Position
    • Custom columns with Average Position
    • Saved reports with filter on Average Position
    • Saved filters with Average Position

Why is Google Removing the Average Position Metrics?

A curious decision indeed, isn't it? After all, most Google Ads clients also refer to their ads' average position to gauge whether their ads are doing well; Higher position, higher visibility, higher chances for a click & a conversion.

Google isn't exactly removing the metrics per se, but rather, replacing the useful feature with one that is more accurate on where your ads are appearing on the search results page.

The metrics being newly introduced here are Top Impression Rate & Absolute Top Impression Rate.

What Does Top Impression Rate Mean?

Top Impression refers to any position within the top set of paid listings. The top impression rate then refers to how often your ads are shown above the organic search results.

The calculation is done as follows:

Search top impression rate = Number of impressions on top / Total impressions

You may find this column listed as "Impr. (Top) %" on Google Ads.

What Does Absolute Top Impression Rate Mean?

Absolute Top Impression refers to when your ad is shown on the very top of the search result page, above organic search results and other search ads. As such, the absolute top impression rate refers to how often your ads appear above everything else on the search results.

The calculation is done as follows: Search absolute top impression rate =

Number of impressions on the absolute top / Total impressions

You may find this column listed as "Impr. (Abs. Top) %" on Google Ads.

Use Top Impression & Absolute Top Impression to Measure & Optimize Your Ad Performance

With these features now rolled out to the public, users are encouraged to use the newly-introduced metrics to gauge their Google Search Ads performance.

On the 28th of June 2019, Alibaba Group released a video capturing the possibility of multi-sensory shopping experience in the future.

It's possible to conclude that Refinity Tech is a new technology being researched and developed in collaboration with Alibaba DAMO Academy & DAMO Natural Human-Computer Interaction Lab.

There isn't much other information available yet, but with the demo only released earlier this year, Refinity could take a while before it becomes a consistent shopping reality!

Take a look at the video below:

    Video transcript as below:

    ---

Refinity - The new sensory experience that makes shopping come alive.
To create a sensory experience Refinity employs auto-stereoscopic objects riven by ultrasound haptic displays.

Start Refinity: Simply point to a product to bring it forward.

Water pressure & Warmth: Mid-air haptic and thermal feedback simulate different water settings from raindrops to airy.

Scent & sound: The scent generator creates a pleasant aroma while Refinity plays the object's sound to simulate the fresh scent and soothing sound of water drops. Push back to put the product back.

3 Interaction: As the user interacts with the mid-air 3D faucet, feel the water while interacting with the flow of the waterflow. Swipe to view another product.

A Sensory experience: Experience the scent of the bubble bath wile feeling the warmth and pressure of the water jets.

3D Interior Views: Lean forward for an inside look at the internal heating system. Refinity provides the cutaway view.

Even the best-built sales deck won't amount to anything if you use the wrong phrases to seal the closing deal.

The closing moment is crucial, and you will neither be the first nor the last salesperson to feel anxious when the moment to close sales arrive. Still, it is with this sense of apprehension that every salesperson will feel thrilled when they close a sale.

With the expectations for sales professionals to achieve and maintain a great sales record, quite a number of sales techniques have been developed in the past years, with these few below taking the lead.

Five Sales Closing Techniques That Work & Why They Do

5 Modern Sales Closing Techniques That Works and Why They're Successful

    Soft Closing Method

    Soft Closing Technique & Example

If you prefer not to be too direct in your closing technique, try soft-closing. The keys to soft closing is to highlight the benefit of your products, and then ask a low-impact, non-commital question to see if your prospective clients would be interested to learn more.

    Here's a few examples:
    • Would it align better with your company goals if I were to tell you that I can reduce your current Google Ads maintenance cost by 15% and increase the cost efficiency by about 20% at the same time?
    • If I told you that we can get your 15% more leads with higher quality and customer intent, would you be interested to learn more?
    • Would you be interested to know more if I told you that our Google Ads services can tackle those pain points you mentioned, while also maintaining your current marketing operation costs?
Questions as provided above clearly outline the benefits of signing up with your company without asking for any commitment. A question asking about the company goals also gives you a chance to learn more about your prospective clients' needs.

    Assumption Closing

    Assumption Closing Technique & Example

Whether you have left a client's meeting having provided them some new information or if you have learnt about their interests, you can advance towards closing your sale by assuming positive intent.

    Here's a few examples:
    • Did the information and presentation provided above align with your expectations?
    • Did the presentation meet your expectations in terms of data & strategies provided?
    • Does the description of the service we provide sound like something that would be valuable to your business? Does it meet any needs or pain points?
When you start by assuming good intent from the start, you will bring a sense of authority and direct the sales process towards a close.

    Sharp Angle Closing

Sharp Angle Closing Technique & Example

Your prospects would often ask for further price deductions or complementary add-ons, because they know that they have the upper hand in determining whether you're going to get your sales or not. They would also know that you can expect them to do so. Try asking them something in return at this critical moment.

Here's a few examples for when your prospect asks, "Can you further reduce the management fee from 20% to 10%?
    • Definitely, but if I were to do that for you, would you sign the contract today?
    • Sure, I can even push your campaign towards the front of the queue with that, but would you proceed with our proposed budgets meanwhile?
    • If I can arrange that for you, would you transfer us the contract amount within this week for us to get started?
It's unlikely for your prospects to expect this response, because you agreed to their request and also because you proposed to close the contract on that day itself with your own conditions. If your sales manager has given you permission to try sharp angle closes, this could be worth a try.

    Question Closing

    Question Closing Technique & Example

As a sales representative, you'll have to ask some probing questions to develop desire in your clients, and eliminate objections for their purchase along the way. With the proper wording, you may also be able to address these objections while gaining their commitment!

    Here's a few examples:
    • Do you think that what I'm offering will solve your problem?
    • In your opinion, does our offering fit the requirements you mentioned in our previous meeting?
    • Is there any potential reasons stopping you from proceeding with the strategy we proposed?
In the first and second question, you can find out whether your prospect is sold on your idea or not. If the answer is no, you can continue to sell and present your ideas. If the answer is a yes, then you're well on your way to signing a contract. The third one meanwhile, can also give you closure and information as to why your customers aren't fully convinced yet.

    Take Away Closing

Take Away Closing Technique & Example

This strategy works just as well on kids as they do on adults. With children, you'll notice that the moment you take something from them, they will want it even more. This psychological approach applies to adults as well.

If your clients are rejecting your prices, you can remove certain features or services, and then present them the discounted offer again. There's a chance that your prospects will be focusing more on the removed parts than on the discounted price itself.

    Here's a few examples:
    • I can reduce the campaign management from 30% to 15%, but with that we can only provide you the basic set-up and there will be only optimization or changes once a month. Is that okay for you?
    • We can give you the RM500 website package instead of the RM1000 package, but this would mean that we only provide you with a one-pager and free stock photos instead of the premium illustrations.
    • We can reduce the playbook price to RM10000, but we will be removing section 2 - 4 involving your target audiences and messaging tones. If this is okay for you, we will proceed.
By removing certain attractive add-ons or services, your prospect is likely to revert their decisions and decide to go with your direction instead.

One Size Does Not Fit All

While these are some techniques that we propose, it might not work for all cases or for different personalities. The best way to learn the selling and closing techniques for a salesperson would still involve a trusted mentor, leadership and plenty of practice.

Every business can build some brand awareness using suitable high quality graphics they post on Instagram. It's the age of social media, and everyone's turning to platforms such as Facebook, Twitter & Instagram to see how other people review your products and services.

This is why you need to start managing your Instagram for Business account and post on it. Here are some tips on how you can get started.
Instagram for Business - 7 Ways to Build Your Business on Instagram

Utilizing Instagram for Business to Its Fullest Potential

    Start with Professional Photos

Edit your photos before uploading them to Instagram

With Instagram being centralized on visually pleasing content, you'll need to start with stylizing your images. Brighten your images, increase the contrast - anything else that you'll need to produce sharp and clear images.

With the arrangement of Instagram photos, you should also pay attention to the cohesiveness of your photo grids.

When your prospective customers visit your Instagram profile, they should be looking at a series of images with similar styles, filters or looks.

    Just keep it consistent!

    Post Instagram Stories

Drive Traffic to Time-Limited Offers & Discounts

There's plenty of features available for Instagram stories! If you have events, promotions or updates that you'd like to share with your audiences, why not post a story?

Any photos or videos you post on your Instagram Stories will disappear after 24 hours, making this function optimal for time-limited posts that you'd rather not keep on your Instagram feed after the event is over.

Encourage your users to interact with your Instagram story by adding stickers to them.

You can add polls, questions and sliding bars among other elements. These items will allow you to collect feedback and input from your users, and you can even use a combination of these stickers for a weekly session of 'Ask Me Anything' or any other Q&A events!

If you have some stories that you'd like to keep on your profiles long after the stories have expired, keep them in the 'stories highlight' section on your profile.

    Stream Events Live

Suitable for events & product launches, you can livestream your events to gain more views & awareness.

What better way to generate some hype for your company events than by livestreaming it to your audience?

Provide some insights into how your business works, the latest product reveal, or cater to a live Q&A session with Instagram live every now and then. This works best when you have an exclusive event that you'd like to share with your audience.

After your livestream has ended, the video will remain on your Instagram story section just as it would in a normal Instagram story. After wards, it would disappear.

By the end of the livestream, you can also choose to save the video into your device, where you can opt to share the video on other platforms, such as on Facebook story, YouTube & more.

    Interact with Other Instagram Users

Like & comment on posts, and respond to their input in your direct messaging.

Always try to reach your users and engage with them.

You can start by liking other users' comments on your post and replying to every other comment that you find relevant. You can also remind other users about your business by liking their photos and commenting on their posts.

Tag users and other businesses that are with you in your posted media as well! You can also input the location of your post.

When you tag other users and locations, your post might also appear in their profile. That's some extra visibility!

Last but not least, try the direct messaging feature should your customers be inquiring about your product prices or if you need to request some of their personal details to get in touch with them.

    Include Hashtags in Your Post

Let your users find you by using the hashtags they're interested in.

Users can search for hashtags or click on one to find other posts using the same hashtag that they're interested in.

As such, your Instagram account could be found by users looking for posts with hashtags that they're interested in! Be sure to include hashtags relevant to your brand and post for best results.

While Instagram allows up to 30 hashtags in a single post, having that many would just be overkilling it. Opt for fewer, more relevant hashtags instead for better post quality!

While we're on this issue, it's also worth noting that having your own hashtag for your company name & event can help with building brand awareness.

This way, Instagram users who are visiting your event can share photos on their own profile with your hashtag, and you can see which event is more popular for social media posting and engagement!

    Promote Your Posts

    Create irresistible push offers

Just like Facebook, Instagram for Business allows you to promote your posts with ads.

You can run Instagram ads with single-photo posts, multi-photo posts and video posts among several others. If you are running these ads from your Facebook Ad Manager interface, you can even get your ads published as a sponsored Instagram Story!

When users click on your Instagram ads, they can be directed to your website via a 'learn more', 'shop now', 'book now' or other CTA buttons located underneath your post.

    Sell Your Products

Sell your products to customers without requiring them to leave Instagram

While this feature is not available for all businesses and countries yet, bigger retail brands such as Nike and Burberry already has access to these functions.

With the shopping feature, Instagram users can shop and purchase products from your Instagram profile without even leaving the social media platform.

If your brand is whitelisted for Instagram Shopping, you only need to organize your products and create a shopping catalog through Facebook, Shopify or BigCommerce and connect your account with Instagram.

As long as your physical good comply with Instagram's merchant agreement and commerce policies, your Shoppable posts will not face any issues.

Start by Choosing Your Campaign Goals

Without a proper campaign goal, you might not be using the best bidding strategy that will complement your business.

Once you have selected a goal for your campaign, you can spend your digital marketing expenditure much more efficiently, so always optimize for your campaign objectives!

In 2017, YouTube published their study gauging how efficient their YouTube 6-second ad format offering can be.

When they surveyed the performance of 122 bumper ads in the United States just shortly after the release of bumper ads, they found that 70% of these campaigns garnered a significant life in brand awareness.

In fact, 9 out of 10 of these campaigns drove ad recalls - viewers who saw the 6-second YouTube ads were able to remember seeing those ads and what brand they were from.

This is just the tip of the iceberg for how effective bumper ads have been during the product release.

Bumper ads have this surprising ability to capture and retain viewers’ attention - it’s so short and sweet that users do not need to look away for the few short seconds, and if you play your cards right, you might just be able to get your audiences to remember you.

Below are some tips that you can utilize to improve your bumper ads performance.

4 Ways to Improve Your Bumper Ads Before You Launch the Ads

    Define Your Bumper Ad Objectives

Every campaign needs a plan, an understanding of your audiences and the goal of the campaign.

Bumper ads are effective for brand reach and frequency. You can use bumper ads to extend the reach for your existing campaigns, or to complement a broader messaging.

In fact, several Google studies have shown that a higher ad recall can be produced when bumper ads are run after YouTube TrueView Ads!

If you're considering upper-funnel goals such as ad recall and awareness, then bumper ads will work well for you.

Integrate Bumper Ads into Your Wider Media Plan

While bumper ads can generate sufficient impact on their own, running a series of bumper ads as part of your long-form video campaign or a wider media strategy - this can include TV, radio or anything else that you might be running.

YouTube has a 'Tease, Amplify & Echo' strategy that they always recommend for short- and long-form video ads.

Integrate this video model into your video campaign strategy ad you'll have a series of videos presentable as an ad sequence.

With an ad sequence, you won't even need to say much in the short six seconds of your bumper ads! Without many words, you can repeat your brand messaging in the video, and build towards a stronger ad recall rate.

    Keep Things Simple

It's easy to speak lengths about your brand and products. However, when you have to speak of it in limited time and words, you'll need to ensure that your message is still clear, concise and memorable.

It's best to keep in mind that your video should be simple and have a single clear message. You can even think of your video storyboard as a joke!

Think of a punchline for the joke (video) first, then work backwards and build up to that point!

Structure Your Video Ad Campaign Effectively

Remember how bumper ads are really short and easy to digest? It just so happens that there is yet another formula for video campaign structuring!

YouTube introduced a short and sweet guideline - Attract, Brand, Connect and Direct, which you can easily remember as ABCD. While originally formulated for 30-second ads, you can still apply this guideline to the short 6-second bumper ads!

More guidelines will be provided in our following posts, so do stay tuned!

    Keep Testing, Measuring & Learning

Bumper ads may have been around for a few years, but it will still take many trials and experimenting before you find the best way to produce bumper ads for your own business.

If you are just getting started on bumper ads, we know how challenging it would be to convey a meaningful message in just six seconds. However, add the video into a sequence of other related videos to form a good story, and you might just start seeing some real results early one!

    YouTube Ads Common FAQ

Thinking about getting started with YouTube ads? There may be many terms that you aren't familiar with when you start, but don't worry! This list of FAQs should be a good start to help you better understand them.

10 Common FAQs about YouTube Ads - CPV, Video Length, Bumper Ads & More

    1) How much does it cost to advertise on YouTube?

On average, YouTube ads have a cost-per-view (CPV) of RM0.03 to RM0.20, but the cost may vary depending on your video length and type.

    2) How long should YouTube ads be?

YouTube ads should optimally be between 15-30 seconds, but you can make ads as short as 5 seconds or even as long as one-minute as long as it's an engaging ad that keeps your viewers watching till the end!

    3) Do you have to pay for ads on YouTube?

Advertisers only pay for showing their ads on YouTube when someone clicks on their ads, or when they watch for a certain duration.

    4) What are bumper ads on YouTube?

YouTube has its own short-form video ad option, which are 6-second video ads. The cost for these ads are based on CPM - cost per thousand impressions, and is available for buying on Google Ads. Bumper ads cannot be skipped.

    5) How do pre-roll ads work?

Pre-roll ads are the video ads that play automatically before YouTube videos play. These are usually billed on a cost-per-view (CPV) bidding system, and you are charged if someone watches your ads for 30 seconds or more. These ads are usually skippable as opposed to bumper ads.

    6) What is a YouTube companion banner?

If you are running a YouTube in-stream ad, you can add a clickable thumbnail image as your companion banner. Companion banners appear on the right sidebar as your YouTube ad plays. These banners can be auto-generated based on other videos you have in your channel.

    7) What is a CTA overlay?

A call-to-action (CTA) overlay is an interactive element that appears over your YouTube ads. These overlays drive engagement and action such as a click-through to your website. They appear when your video ads start, and collapses into just a small thumbnail image after 15 seconds elapsed.

    8) What are YouTube discovery ads?

Previously known as In-Display ads, a TrueView Video Discovery ad is a format that promotes your video on the YouTube search results along with other relevant videos, and also on YouTube mobile homepage. The ad includes a thumbnail image of your video, a headline and description.

    9) What is a Cost-per-View (CPV)?

Cost-per-view (CPV) bidding is the default ad-buying bidding method for YouTube Ads in Google Ads interface. In CPV bidding, you pay for video views, engagements & interactions (Clicks on CTA overlays, cards, companion banners etc). A video view is counted when someone watches at least 30 seconds of your video or the entire length if the video is less than 30 seconds.

    10) How is Cost-per-View (CPV) calculated?

Cost-per-view (CPV) is calculated by dividing the total advertising costs by the number of views - any complete views, 30-second views or interactions count for the final CPV calculation!

Have you ever compared your Google Ads performance report with your Google Analytics and noticed a discrepancy in the number of clicks?

This could be caused by several reasons - it could be due to the wrong date settings, looking at the wrong views or it could be some technical errors.

If you have noticed a discrepancy between the number of clicks on Google Ads & Google Analytics, check each item in the checklist below to find out if you're looking at the right settings first.

Troubleshooting Click Data Discrepancies Between Google Ads and Analytics

Here's a checklist to rule out potential human / technical errors that led to this data discrepancy.

    1) Check linked account

    1. Go to analytics.google.com and click on the gear icon (admin).
    2. Check if you're looking at the right account and property first.
    3. Under the second column marked 'Property', check under 'Google Ads Linking' to see if you have linked your Google Analytics account to the right Google Ads account ID.

    2) Check if you're looking at a filtered view

    1. Go to analytics.google.com and click on the gear icon (admin).
    2. Under the third column marked 'View', check if you have any activated filters. These filters can cause some impressions, clicks and more to be filtered out from Google Analytics, causing the number to be fewer than those shown in Google Ads.

    3) Check date range

    1. Go to analytics.google.com and click on Acquisition, then go to 'Google Ads' and click on 'Campaigns'. You can look at other sub-columns, but looking at campaigns will be a good start.
    2. Check the data range on the upper right corner of Google Analytics and Google Ads and make sure that they are the same ad range.

    4) Check again in 24 hours

If you're comparing the stats for the current date, there may be a time delay for the data to show up either on Google Ads or Google Analytics. Give it a day or two and see if the issue persists. Alternatively, look up the data up to the previous day.

    5) Check if you're looking at Total Clicks in Google Ads

The total clicks in Google Ads can have a discrepancy if you are not looking at 'Total Clicks', especially if you have paused or removed any text ads, keywords, ad groups or even campaigns itself. Look at the lowest row labeled with 'Total Clicks' to determine if you're looking at the right numbers.

Have you gone through the list? Does the problem still persist? Here's a few possible explanations as to why the number of clicks are different in these two platforms.

Possible Reasons for Click Data Discrepancies between Google Ads and Analytics

Wrong Implementation of Google Site Tag

Google Ads will record a click the moment a click has been registered. Meanwhile, Google Analytics only registers a click when the script on the page has been fired.

You will need to insert a line of code into your website for Google Analytics to register site visitors, ad clicks and so on. This line of code will send your site visitor activities to Google Analytics once it loads correctly on your website.

If you have implemented the code on the wrong place - let's say outside the html or outside of body tag, the script will not fire.

Without the script firing, the activity would not be recorded, or the activity recorded might be inaccurate.

When this happens, you can expect there to be fewer clicks on Analytics than on Google Ads.

Script Is Not Firing to Record Clicks

Let's say your website is down - your search and display ads would still appear for some time before Google registers the error.

Clicks can still happen, and the number of clicks will be recorded in your Google Ads interface. Meanwhile, your website does not load at all - the script can't fire if the website is not loaded in the first place.

So, while your Google Ads record, let's say, 10 clicks from your ads, the ads lead to nowhere in particular, and your Google Analytics do not record those clicks.

That's 10 more clicks in your Google Ads as compared to those in your Google Analytics!

Every marketing effort should be carried out with a set of key performance indicators (KPIs) in mind.

    We concur.

However, these KPIs should be relevant - don't create your KPIs just for the sake of creating them!

Here's a blog post guiding you on how you can create the right KPIs that matter for your next marketing campaign and your business.

Five Tips to Remember When Choosing Your Marketing KPIs

Your KPIs are Only as Good as Your Content

Every post, good or bad, can trigger a KPI or two.

A post share can seem good, until you check the shared content to see the person criticizing it. Seeing a post engagement go up can be awesome, but remember that 'Hide this post' can also be a post engagement, albeit a negative one.

Your content quality will determine whether you will get positive data for your KPIs, so create quality content over quantity!

Your KPIs Should be Related to your Business Goals

Always work towards your company goals.

If your company is working towards a better brand awareness, you can look at metrics such as unique reach and new followers. If you are looking at increasing sales, you can look at KPIs such as add-to-carts, purchases and new registrations.

Tie your marketing campaign objectives and goals to your company goals to ensure that you are always moving in the right direction.

    Track Several KPIs That Matters

Include more than just one KPIs for your marketing campaigns.

It wouldn't seem right if, let's say, your 3-month campaign only has a single KPI focused on tracking post engagements. Include other metrics that matters to track everything else that you're accomplishing. A video campaign, as an example, can include video view rates, 100% views, new subscribers and more.

Don't sell yourself short by implementing too few KPIs, but that also brings us to the next point, which is...

Don't Go Overboard with your KPIs

Do you really need 50 KPIs for one marketing campaign?

Reaching KPIs will require you to track and analyze quite a handful of data - who's responsible for what? Which ones can you track easily, and which KPIs will require way too much manpower to sort out?

Choose the KPIs that can tell the audience just enough about what is happening in the current campaign.

    It's Not All About You

So you noticed that your e-mail open rate has dropped this week.

Don't be too quick to blame yourself! Maybe it's just the subject line needing some optimizing, or perhaps your email was delivered during a busy time of the week. Look further - your email with the lowest open rate could be the one with the most additional actions taken!

Don't be too alarmed over one low-engagement post - there could be many factors that are not under your control to start with!

Ultimately, your chosen set of KPIs can determine whether your campaign is considered successful or not, so take some time to think through the metrics that truly matters for your campaign and your company goals!
